Tick-Borne Illness Research and Treatment

According to the CDC, Lyme Disease is the fastest growing vector-borne infectious disease in the United States, affecting 427,000 Americans a year (10x more than previously reported). Wisconsin and Minnesota are rated 4th and 5th in the country for reported cases of Lyme disease, and the CDC estimates that many cases are going unreported or undiagnosed. Ticks can also cause many other diseases such as Babesiosis, Ehrlichiosis or Anaplasmosis, Bartonella, and Powassan Virus – bringing estimates of those infected by all Tick-Borne Illnesses to over 600,000. Due to the complexity of these diseases, mainstream medical methods for dealing with tick-borne illness do not always generate appropriate diagnosis and treatment.

The Howard Young Foundation is addressing this urgent public health concern with the Tick-Borne Illness Center of Excellence in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. Since opening its doors in September 2019, the Center has had over 1,000 patient visits giving them hope that they can get better.
