Blackbaud Security Incident

To our Howard Young Foundation & Lakeland Pantry Community,

We hope that this message finds you and your loved ones safe and in good health. I am reaching out to let you know, out of an abundance of caution, that we were recently informed of a data breach that occurred in May 2020 at Blackbaud, a company that provides fundraising and relationship management software to nonprofits, including the Howard Young Foundation and the Lakeland Pantry.

Blackbaud responded to, contained, and prevented the fullness of the attack with the partnership of law enforcement and cyber security experts. According to Blackbaud, the data accessed contained public information only -- no credit card or banking information was part of the data theft. Blackbaud continues to monitor the situation and has already implemented changes to prevent this specific issue from happening again. More information on this incident can be found on their website.

Howard Young Foundation and Lakeland Pantry take your security and privacy very seriously. We selected Blackbaud after determining that they were the industry leader in this sector, setting and leading the standards for privacy and security best practices. Since this breach, we have thoroughly reviewed their response and their plans to prevent something similar from occurring again and deem that they are still worthy of our trust and partnership. We continue to monitor the sector and continue to follow the most up to date best practices when working with any personal donor data.

While most of the information included in the attack is publicly available, it is important you remain vigilant of anyone trying to contact you who may know information about you. We also recommend that you use caution in responding to donation solicitations. Blackbaud is continuing to monitor for any further disclosure of the affected information. If we learn there is evidence of any wrongdoing with the affected data, we will alert you.

Howard Young Foundation and Lakeland Pantry are committed to providing clear, transparent communication about the incident as well as receiving feedback and answering questions. We apologize for any concern this may cause. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at 715-439-4005 or [email protected].

Sincerely,

Erin Biertzer

President, Howard Young Foundation
